Apia strengthens partnership with Sydney

Tennis Australia today proudly announced Apia as the new title sponsor of the Sydney International.

Apia, a Platinum Partner since 2009, has signed a three year agreement starting with the January 2012 event, which will be known as the ‘Apia International Sydney’.

Tournament Director CraigWatson said he was delighted to have Apia confirm and increase their involvement in the event, which is the world’s fifth oldest tennis tournament.

“Apia is one of themost recognisable financial services brands in Australia and a leader in its field so we are thrilled to have them make such a major commitment to our event,” Mr Watson said.

“Their sponsorship marks an exciting new era for the event and will provide an enormous contribution to the sport in Australia. We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with Apia even further over the next three years.”

Four-time champion and Apia International Sydney Ambassador Lleyton Hewitt welcomed Apia’s continued support of the event.

“Apia has been a significant partner of the tournament over the last few years and their backing signals what a fantastic event we have here in Sydney.

“I am looking forward to forging a great collaborative relationship with them and the event over the coming years.”

Watson also acknowledged the outstanding long term support of the event from Medibank, whose title sponsorship agreement ended in January this year.

“The event and the sport have benefitted enormously from the partnership with Medibank over the past seven years and we are pleased to announce that they will stay involved in the event as platinum partner.”

Planning for the Apia International Sydney 2012 is well underway with Hewitt already unveiled as the first player committed to the January 8 to 14 event.

A number of male and female marquee players will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Apia International Sydney will be held at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 January 2012.

Apia International Sydney 2012, proudly supported by Apia, in association with Medibank, South African Airways and Destination NSW on behalf of the NSWGovernment, is a key international sports event on the 2012 NSW Events Calendar.

The Apia International Sydney, will take place at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from 8 to 14 January 2012.
