Eighth-seeded American Sloane Stephens has been forced to withdraw from Apia International Sydney 2014 with a left wrist injury.

“I was having some pain in my wrist and the doctor recommended I not play this week. This is a difficult decision, but the best decision for me and my team to make. I hope to be back at the Apia International Sydney next year,” said Stephens, the world No. 12.

She will be replaced by a yet-to-be-determined lucky loser in the draw.
