Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia has kept the upsets coming at Apia International Sydney 2014, ousting the experienced Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets on Sunday.
In the final match of Sunday’s play at Ken Rosewall Arena, the 20-year-old wildcard beat Hantuchova 6-4 7-5.
The victory came after 18-year-old Madison Keys earlier upset seventh seed Simona Halep in the first match of the day.
Tomljanovic, coached by Australia’s David Taylor, will face Keys in the second round.
After falling behind 3-0 to open the match, Tomljanovic roared back to claim six of the next seven games to take a one-set lead.
And she kept the comeback theme going in the second set, saving a set point in the ninth game and then winning the next three games to clinch victory.
