Gavrilova withdraws from Apia International Sydney

An abdominal injury has forced newly-minted Australian Daria Gavrilova out of this year’s Apia International Sydney.

New Aussie Daria Gavrilova (Vic) has been forced to withdraw from the Apia International Sydney with a left abdominal muscle injury.

“I’m really disappointed to withdraw from Sydney this year. It’s a really important tournament and I was looking forward to playing in front of all the great fans here.

“Unfortunately my abdominal injury needs a bit more time to heal ahead of Melbourne next week. I’m looking for to coming back to the Apia International Sydney in future years.”

Tournament Director Alistair MacDonald wished Gavrilova a speedy recovery.

“Daria had an absolutely outstanding year in 2015 and we were looking forward to seeing her play this week as an Australian. We wish her well with her recovery and all the best with her preparations for the Australian Open.”

Gavrilova will be replaced in the draw by Lucky Loser Magdalena Rybarikova (SVK).
